Ever had one of those moments where your perspective shifted forever?
A big “aha” moment for me happened In business in my 30s.
I had all the money, power, and stuff I thought I wanted when dreaming in my teens. Married, kids, cars, house, and money were headed in the right direction. As I reflected on all this one day I was sad – Oh My Gosh – Just MORE of everything above for the next 30 years. Money, power, stuff … lather rinse repeat with the only goal of … more?
Ugg.
For whatever reason that blew a gasket in me. Isn’t there something MORE than that?
And that’s when I started my mid life crisis and bought a cool sports car, started cheating on my wife, got a cocaine habit, and started wearing Affliction t-shirts. Yeah buddy!
Kidding. I didn’t do any of that. But I think this is where many of us can get if we don’t take these moments seriously.
if you are not down for blowing your life up with the 1990’s midlife crisis approach – what do you do?
Get Significant.
More is easy. It’s the way you’ve always done it.
More is:
- Short term
- ME focused
- ME comfort
- Bottom line only
- Ends justify the means
- Worldly applause
- Long term – delayed gratification
- We focused
- Serve others
- Impact
- Everyone is someone else’s precious child
- Audience of one
Significance is hard because the results are delayed.

The world did a good job putting me on a path. I needed different wisdom to guide me in my next season. This moment for me is when I leaned into my faith.
I needed something bigger than myself to humble me and show me the best path. I needed and found Jesus. He actually never left – I just finally looked in his direction to see what all the hub bub was about. Not the weird thumpy religion kind but the relational, challenging, and deepest sense of joy that changes your life forever kind.
That didn’t mean I didn’t want to achieve and create something great. It just meant why I was doing it and how I went about it needed a big overhaul.
Acumen is a place where those who are successful are looking to add and go deeper in significance with everything in their life - marriage, kids, and business and faith, in a way that impacts those they touch including employees, vendors and community.
Looking for something more? Come and see.
