There’s a funny thing that happens once you’ve “made it.”
You spend years grinding: chasing growth, chasing goals, chasing that mythical day when you’ll finally be able to exhale. Then one day you look up from your phone and realize that you’ve built the thing. The company runs, your team and customers are happy, the numbers are fine.
But the wins don’t hit like they used to. What now?
Some people double down. They expand, rebrand, or find a bigger hill to climb. Others buy a lake house and start working on their golf handicap.
But a lot of leaders—the honest ones—start to ask harder questions. Not “What’s next?” but “Wait. What matters?”
That question can be uncomfortable. Especially for those of us who’ve spent our lives measuring progress in spreadsheets and quarterly goals. Legacy, impact, and meaning aren't things that show up in KPIs.
But if you ignore them long enough, they start whispering louder.
Here’s what so many of the leaders we know have learned (usually the hard way): impact doesn’t happen by accident. You don’t stumble into legacy just because you’ve been successful. You have to get intentional about who you surround yourself with, what kind of culture you’re building, and how your work actually changes lives beyond your own.
That’s where having a circle of peers who get it makes all the difference. People who will look you in the eye and ask the questions your board, your spouse, and your team might not.
